What’s changed and why upgrading matters

The FrogBox NextGen V2 kit has been shaped by what we’ve learned from thousands of matches and direct customer feedback on V1. It features purpose-built FrogBox sports camera hardware and has been redesigned to simplify setup, reduce hardware complexity, and deliver a more reliable, higher-quality streaming experience.

Key Improvements in V2

1. Simpler setup (biggest upgrade)

With V1, setup involves 8 cables and around 20 individual parts, all requiring manual connections across multiple components. This adds time, increases complexity on match day, and creates more opportunities for something to go wrong.

V2 changes that with a single cable setup and just 7 parts, dramatically reducing the number of steps before play so you can be up and streaming in minutes.

What V2 means for you:

  • Faster setup before play
  • Fewer things to plug in incorrectly
  • Less room for error and streaming issues
  • Simple enough for anyone at your club to set up
  • Less reliance on technical expertise
  • No APN configuration calls — just connect to WiFi or hotspot and go

2. Fewer components to manage

With V1, the kit relies on third-party hardware and multiple individual components working together including camera, encoder, cabling and external batteries, which adds complexity and friction on match day.

V2 simplifies this with a more integrated, purpose-built FrogBox design, including:

  • Complete FrogBox-designed streaming system
  • Camera and encoder both with built-in batteries
  • More powerful encoding performance
  • Sturdier tripod
  • Easy-to-carry backpack

What V2 means for you:

  • Easier transport to and from the ground
  • Less to remember on match day
  • Less time troubleshooting
  • Reduced risk of missing equipment
  • Faster pack up and down at the end of play
  • Cleaner, more organised setup area
  • Greater confidence everything will work together seamlessly

3. 1080p HD video as standard

With V1, streaming is limited to 720p, which can impact clarity and quality of vision.

V2 is optimised for Full HD 1080p streaming, delivering a noticeably sharper and more professional broadcast, with the flexibility to use 720p on lower bandwidth.

What V2 means for you:

  • Clearer ball tracking
  • Sharper overall picture quality
  • Better viewing experience for players and fans
  • More professional-looking streams for clubs and sponsors

4. Remote camera control (no more manual adjustments)

With V1, adjusting tilt and zoom during play requires going to the camera, bringing it down, and making manual changes. This can disrupt the streaming coverage and often involves a bit of trial and error to get the framing right.

V2 changes this completely. With Bluetooth control via the app, you can adjust tilt and zoom in real time from your phone or tablet without touching the camera.

What V2 means for you:

  • Fine-tune framing without lowering the tripod
  • Adjust quickly to different grounds and conditions
  • More consistent, professional-looking coverage

5. Improved audio designed for sport

With V1, audio capture is basic and can pick up inconsistent background noise.

V2 includes enhanced sports audio capture, tuned specifically for cricket environments.

What V2 means for you:

  • Clearer bat-on-ball sound
  • Reduced background noise
  • More immersive viewing experience
  • Better match atmosphere for fans

6. Built for reliability and real-world conditions

With V1, performance can be impacted by reliance on external power and varying conditions across long match days.

V2 is designed for reliability in real-world cricket environments, featuring:

  • Weather-resistant camera
  • Long-life internal batteries in both camera and encoder
  • Consistent performance across full match days

What V2 means for you:

  • Fewer interruptions during play
  • Less reliance on external power solutions
  • Greater confidence your stream will run from start to finish

What hasn’t changed (and still works great)

Both V1 and V2 continue to provide:

  • Automated live streaming to platforms like YouTube and soon FrogBox Play
  • Live score overlays via scoring apps
  • Automatic highlight clipping through FrogBox systems
  • Integration with FrogBox Go and Lilypad

So you’re not losing any functionality, just gaining simplicity, quality and reliability.

Who should upgrade?

You’ll benefit most from V2 if:

  • You want faster, stress-free setup on match day
  • You’ve experienced cabling or setup challenges with V1
  • You want higher-quality video with Full HD 1080p
  • You’re looking to future-proof your club’s streaming setup
  • You want a simpler, more reliable system for volunteers to manage
