New YouTube Restriction
YouTube has started to enforce a limit of:
Maximum 10 simultaneous LIVE streams per YouTube channel
This limit:
- Applies only to streams currently in the “LIVE” state
- Does not include scheduled (upcoming) streams
- Cannot be manually overridden
If more than 10 matches attempt to go live on a single channel at the same time, the 11th stream will fail to start. If your association has not yet been affected, it is highly likely to impact you soon.
Recommended Structure for Scheduling Streams
To minimise the impact of this restriction on Associations, we’ve outlined a few potential approaches below, however, it will be up to each Association to review and determine what works best for their competitions and clubs. Associations will also need to communicate the changes directly with their clubs.
Option 1: Dedicated YouTube Channel per Club (Recommended)
Create a YouTube channel for each club to use across all grades - you can either create a series of Association-branded YouTube club channels or ask each club to create and brand their own. Each club would then need to link their club channel to FrogBox Go and manage all their streams in one place. Consideration: This removes the need for clubs to switch between channels as per Option 2 below.
Option 2: Split Streams Across Multiple YouTube Channels (Not Recommended)
Create and manage multiple Association channels to distribute concurrent streams and stay within the limit (e.g. 1st Grade / Premier fixtures on the primary Association channel, with lower grades on secondary channels).
Consideration: Clubs would need to regularly disconnect and reconnect their FrogBox Go account between channels depending on which matches they are streaming. This approach also relies on consistent separation of match start times between grades (e.g. all 1st Grade matches starting at one time and lower grades at another), which is often not the case. As a result, this option is not recommended.
Option 3: Maintain Your Existing Channel with Active Monitoring
Continue using your existing YouTube channel while closely managing scheduling to ensure no more than 10 streams are live at any one time. Consideration: This is the simplest operationally, but carries risk during peak periods where overlapping matches may exceed the limit.
On-Screen Graphics
On-screen graphics will remain unchanged regardless of any changes made to your YouTube channel structure.
Associations should have the required access to make the changes on behalf of each club, otherwise, Associations can direct their clubs to make change themselves as per the below how-to guides:
